A beautifully composed Afshar rug featuring a classic allover boteh field, each sprouting motif rendered with crisp definition against a deep indigo (almost black) ground. The botehs are arranged in tightly organized rows, creating a shimmering, textile-within-textile effect that rewards close looking. Subtle shifts in dye tone animate the surface, giving the field a sense of depth and movement.
Framing the boteh lattice is a vibrant, floral border system of spiraling blossoms, stylized palmettes, and angular vinework characteristic of Afshar workshops in the Kerman region. The palette is wonderfully saturated, with rich madder reds, soft yellows, and striking sky-blue accents that illuminate the darker field. The drawing throughout is confident and refined, signaling the hand of a skilled tribal weaver working within a well-developed design tradition.
The rug retains its original charm and immediacy, combining tribal spontaneity with Persian workshop finesse. Its scale makes it ideal for hanging or for anchoring a small space, while its condition and color clarity underscore it as a collectible example of late-19th-century Afshar weaving.
