This rug comes from Hossainabad, a weaving village in the Hamadan province of western Iran. Like the broader Hamadan tradition it sits within, Hossainabad rugs were made by individual weavers working from their own homes, each piece shaped by the hands and sensibility of a single person rather than a workshop floor.
This rug is hand-knotted from wool on a cotton foundation, with a design that balances tribal boldness with classical Persian structure. Central medallions, detailed borders, and geometric patterning that reflects both the village weaving traditions of the region and the influence of the wider Persian design vocabulary. The wool is locally sourced, durable, and holds its colour well, which is why, as a vintage piece, what you are looking at still reads as vivid and well defined.
