This exceptional Japanese whetstone was selected by us and imported directly from Japan, thoroughly tested and sealed on sides and back to protect the stone for long term use.
It measures 205 mm (8.07 inches) long × 80 mm (3.15 inches) wide × 40 mm (1.57 inches) tall, and weighs 1685 g (59.44 oz / 3.71 lbs).
Hardness: 4.7Large and beautiful, vintage Shobudani Karasu Suita. Clean Shobudani Suita have become very rare, very quickly. This stone is free from any lines of distractions. The term Sunashi refers to the lack of microscopic holes (Nest=Su) within the stones composition, which define all of the Suita strata. These Su holes are the result of gas/pressure releases which occured as the stone was formed. A very small percentage of Suita are considered Sunashi, increasing their rarity and value. This one is very dense and fine which is typical of Sunashi Suita. Karasu Patterns occur naturally in many layers of Shobudani and this Sunashi Suita wears them well. The stone\'s hard base allows for little to no self slurry when sharpening a Kanna blade. The stone releases only inky black swarf and the polishing results of water only are quite bright and refined with beautiful depth. The stone supports Mikawa Nagura Progressions or standalone use for razors which is very rare in a Suita. It polishes and hones at an extremely high level making it the ultimate workhorse stone. Museum Quality!
A photo of the stone\'s polishing ability on soft and hard steels of a Japanese kanna (plane) blade are shown.
