Artist: Vicky ZomenouMaterials: Sterling SilverDimensions: 9 inchesFabric Motif: Just like in our culture, roses in Japan symbolize love and romance
Haiku: seaside roses beginning to fade our days of building castles
- Paula Sears
About the Work: On this yukata, roses unfold as flowing one-line sketches, gestures that suggest rather than fully describe. I carried that spirit into metal, shaping forms that feel both present and ephemeral.
In Japan, the rose speaks of refinement, while in Greece it was sacred to Aphrodite—together reminding us how this flower has always crossed borders as a timeless emblem of love, beauty and elegance.
Vicky Zomenou Bio: Born in Greece and now based in Seattle, I left a corporate career to pursue the craft I studied for over a decade. My jewelry follows an intuitive, sculptural approach, where form emerges from memory, touch, and transformation. Guided by slow fashion values, I work with recycled sterling silver and responsibly sourced materials to create pieces that carry story and presence. Each jewel is made to endure with quiet beauty, becoming complete only when discovered in wear.
This piece was part of the Yukata Inspired 2025, a collaborative exhibition between Okan Arts & Danaca Design featuring jewelry and metalwork alongside Haiku from Haiku Northwest. Learn more and view the entire collection HERE.
